Abstract
Oligomenorrhea is defined as the menses occurring at internals of 37 days to 180n days, and it is one of a common menstrual disorders. In this study, the clinical charateristics and hormonal profiles were analyzed in 82 infertile patient with
oligomenorrhea. One hundred fourty-six infertile patient with normal menstrual cycles served as a control. There were no differences in an age and a rate of primary infertility between oligomenorrheic and control group. A basal luteinizing
hormone(LH)
level was hignificantly higher in an oligomenorrheic group, with 5.8*6.1 mIU/ml in a control group. A basal follicle stimulating hormone(FSH) level was also significantly higher in an oligominorrheic group, with 150.9*29.8 mIU/ml compared with
10.1*10.7
mIU/ml in a control group. The incidence of hyperprolactinemia(HPRL) and polycystic ovarian syndrome(PCOS) we re significantly higher in an oligomenorrheic group than in a control group. However, there were no differences in the incidences of
hypothyroidism, hypothyroidism, and ovarian failure between two groups. There were no differences in the incidences of myoma uteri, congenital uterine anomalies, intrauterine adhesion, luteal phase defect and endometritis between two groups. This
study
suggests that infertile patients with oligomenorrhea comprise a special group in which ovulatory defects associated with endocrine abnormalities such as HPRL and PCOS can be observed frequently.
